The streets are barricated with wooded fences on both sides. Every year between 200 and 300 people are injured but mostly minor injuries. Since 1910, 15 people have died in the bull run of Pamplona the last one in 2009. And no ...

The main attraction for us near Nimes was the Pont-du-Gard so we went to have a look as soon as we arrived in town. It was a fairly miserable day with a steady drizzle and when we found out that entry was 15 euros we almost decided to give it a miss, but with our very limited French we managed to figure out that one of the signs said there was free entry after 6 pm - so we went to check out an old Roman amphitheatre in Orange first. Spain - madrid bullfighting 1 - the tease

Spain - madrid bullfighting 1 - the tease

Bullfighting is a traditional spectacle of Spain, Portugal, southern France and several Latin American countries , in which bulls are ritually killed mercilessly but with a slow torturous death. It is NOT a sport and there are no elements of competition or fairplay and is very gory. Bullfighting is often linked to Rome where Emperor Claudius substituted fighting with animals for gladiators fighting each other. Bullfighting was created in Spain to keep soldiers entertained and occupied after the Moors were ousted. Religious festivities and royal weddings were celebrated by bullfights where noblemen would ride competing for royal favours. To make it more exciting, the Spanish introduced the practice of fighting on foot around 1726. The modern style of Spanish bullfighting is credited to Juan Belmonte, the greatest matador of all time whose daring and revolutionary style is what most matadors consider ideal to be emulated. The bullfight we attended in ...
